I own a home with a brick front porch that was in need of restoration to remove and replace about 18 - 20 bricks with a mortar refresh. When I asked my gardening team if they knew anyone who could do this job, they referred me to "The Brick Chick" on Instagram. I connected with Julia and she came by for a site visit and chat. She provided a reference (an instructor at the Ontario Masonry Centre gave her a glowing reference); she sent me a proper quote and we set a time and date for the job to be done.
As life will have it, what you think is going to happen did not. As Julia started removing bricks she thought she could save, they crumbled and a 4 hour job morphed into a 10 hour one. She had to buy more bricks and return a day later to complete the job. Each day she completely cleaned up the site and removed all the debris.
Later that week, I found a few spots where mortar was missed and messaged Julia who was very apologetic and promised to come by to patch them up. (I reminded her she had finished the job in the dark!) Julia returned and patched up the little spots. We shook hands and wished each other well.
As you would expect, having safe and stable access to your home is essential and I wondered if I'd made the right decision hiring a contractor via Instagram. My fears were unfounded.
Julia is a very talented skilled trades woman. She committed herself to doing a great job for me and did what she promised to do. I had a good feeling about her on our first meeting: she was enthusiastic, personable and described how she planned to restore my porch with confidence.
I recommend Julia as a top class brick layer and I'd hire her again in a flash. Do your own due diligence but be rest assured, Julia is the real deal!
